20M Rated Celtic Star Confirms That Two EPL Teams “Showed A Lot Of Interest” Before Transfer Window Closed

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has revealed that both Leicester and Newcastle were keen to secure his signature in the summer.

The Danish Under 21 international was linked with a move to the Premier League before the transfer window closed earlier this month, but O’Riley says he was happy to remain at Parkhead:

“I know that Leicester showed a lot of interest in me. And I think Newcastle were there too. But it didn’t matter that any of them made an offer. If there is no offer, then it is not very concrete in my head. I didn’t really think about it because nobody from Celtic told me that, for example, Newcastle had made an offer. It wasn’t like that, so there wasn’t much to think about, and a lot is also written in the media. It’s great to get some recognition, because it means that I’m doing well at Celtic. But as I say, Celtic is the perfect place for me right now.”

In addition to Leicester and Newcastle, Manchester United are also said to have scouted O’Riley, while both Arsenal and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old.

Even if one of these teams does return with a formal offer in January, though, it isn’t believed that Celtic will let the midfielder leave on the cheap. An asking price of £15m to £20m will reportedly have to be met if a club wants to snap him up.

With O’Riley also stating that he isn’t angling for a move away from the Hoops, the Scottish champions should be able to hold on to the player for now.
