Celtic have tabled an improved bid in the region of £5m for AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, according to reports in the Greek media.
The Hoops were said to have had an initial £3.2m offer turned down for the 26-year-old, but they are hopeful that the second proposal will be enough to seal a deal.
It is believed Barkas has already agreed personal terms with the Scottish champions and fans on Twitter are hoping that the move can now be finalised:

Would be happy to see this transfer happen. After that I think it's important we get another central defender in front of him.

It remains to be seen if AEK will accept the new bid. It had been claimed that the Greek Super League club were looking for a fee in the region of €7m (£6.3m) so Celtic’s offer is still below the asking price.
Neil Lennon’s side are seemingly stepping up their attempts to sign a new number one, though, which is not before time considering the new season is fast approaching.
