Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey says he is very happy with how things have turned out for him in Italy.

The Scotland Under 21 international was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the summer of 2020 when he was still at Hearts.

Celtic, Bayern Munich, Lazio and Aston Villa were all reportedly interested in signing Hickey but, when asked why he joined Bologna instead, the 19-year-old said that the move to Serie A just felt right:

“One of the main reasons (why I signed for Bologna) is that, when I came to visit, I had extremely positive feelings,“Elsewhere, I didn’t feel the same things and this undoubtedly influenced my decision, making me understand Bologna has nothing to envy the top European clubs for. It was the right choice. It has been a good first year. I would say ‘different’ – a different environment, a different language, a different style of football – but I really like all of this.”

After a successful first year with Bologna, speculation about his future has started once again, with AC Milan now said to be keen on the teenager, while Celtic’s name has also been thrown into the mix.

Reports suggest that Ange Postecoglou’s side are in the market for a new left-back in order to provide competition for Greg Taylor. However, with Bologna expected to demand close to £7m, it is unlikely that the Hoops will have the finances to make a bid for Hickey.
