“A Huge Shot In The Arm” Lennon Backs Red Hot Celtic Ace’s Euro 2020 Chances

Celtic manager Neil Lennon believes Odsonne Edouard is deserving of being in contention for France’s European Championship squad following his excellent form for the Scottish champions.

The 22-year-old’s brace against Motherwell on Wednesday means he has now scored 23 goals in all competitions this season, and combined with his form for France’s Under 21s, Lennon thinks he should be considered by national team manager Didier Deschamps:

“It would be a huge shot in the arm for Odsonne if France took a look at him, a huge boost. Confidence always does a player the world of good. I’m sure they’re monitoring him very closely. His record with the Under-21s is excellent. They are the World Cup winners and have such strength-in-depth, so I don’t know.”

Lennon is not wrong about France’s strength up front. As well as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud, they also possess the likes of Alassane Plea, Wissam Ben Yedder, while players such as Anthony Martial and Alexandre Lacazette are not even selected.

Edouard is arguably, however, in better form than a lot of those players at the moment, and while it is frustrating to say, the fact that the Scottish Premiership is still looked down upon by some on the continent may well still play a role in him being omitted from the squad.
