“A Standout Miss…” Miller Believes Celtic Star’s Absence Was Keenly Felt Against St Mirren

Ex-Celtic striker Kenny Miller claims the injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers was one of the key reasons why the Hoops lost to St Mirren last weekend.

The pundit pointed out that Ange Postecoglou’s side had conceded just one league goal before their defeat in Paisley and the American international’s absence should not be underplayed:

“For me, that was the standout miss, I’ll be honest. A lot gets made about the front players – O’Riley, Jota, etc. because they rightly get the headlines, the glamour signings, the ones who score and assist. They’re the ones at the forefront of the scintillating football. But, they’d lost one goal since the start of the season which is an incredible defensive record. He’s at the heart of it. He seems to quietly go about his business, leading, but he knows how to defend. He can organise a backline and has a big influence. He was the big one.”

Miller is bang on the money with Carter-Vickers. Since arriving on loan at the start of last season, the 24-year-old has been a rock at the back.

Postecoglou will be keen to have the centre-half back in action as soon as possible. The nature of his injury hasn’t been confirmed, with Postecoglou stating only that “he pulled up sore” ahead of the match last Saturday.

The fact that he withdrew from international duty, though, does suggest he may be out for at least a couple of weeks. It remains to be seen if he will be fit to face Motherwell.
