‘Almost Certain To Have An Impact’ Hay Backs Celtic To Make Summer Bid For 22 Year Old

Celtic legend Davie Hay believes the Hoops should look to re-sign Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts this summer.

The 22-year-old has been out on loan at Spanish side Girona this season but has struggled for form and fitness, and Hay thinks a return to Celtic Park would suit both parties:

“He really enjoyed his time up here and I’m sure the player himself would be open to the possibility of a return. His second season wasn’t as successful as his first, but he got an injury and then the form of James Forrest meant that he couldn’t get back into the team regularly.”

“I think that the two of them could play in the same team and maybe switch flanks. With Scott Sinclair’s future looking uncertain, he is one who would be almost certain to have an impact.”

Roberts has made just 20 appearances for Girona this campaign, with a hamstring injury keeping him out for two months between December and February.

Still, he barely made an impression when he did play, scoring no goals and contributing just one assist in all.

It must be said that Girona manager Eusebio Sacristan has rarely given Roberts a run in the team, with six league starts in total over the whole campaign.

The La Liga club have also been battling relegation, and look certain for the drop having slipped three points behind safety with one game to go. With their inferior goal difference, they will be playing in the second tier next season.
