Newcastle are interested in signing Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull, according to reports in the English media. The 21-year-old is said to be available for £3m, with Celtic also weighing up whether to revive their bid for the Scottish Under 21 international.
The Hoops pulled out of a move for the player last summer due to issues relating to his medical, and he subsequently had knee surgery which kept him out for the majority of the 2019/20 season.
Supporters on Twitter don’t want Turnbull’s potential transfer to turn into another John McGinn situation:
OPINION…
We should get David Turnbull in and signed at the earliest opportunity before it turns into another John McGinn saga!

There are some similarities between the two sagas. Steve Bruce was manager of Aston Villa when the Villans snapped up McGinn, and he is now currently in charge of Newcastle, looking for another bargain transfer.
It is not a surprise that Celtic are hesitant when it comes to Turnbull, though. He only returned to fitness to play two games last season after a serious knee injury, and there will be doubts over whether he can return to the form that saw him handed the SFWA Young Player of the Year.
