Billion Pound Cash Windfall As UEFA More Than Double Their US TV Rights Deal For European Football

Paramount Global has agreed to pay $1.5billion (£1.2billion) to broadcast the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League over a six-year period in the United States, according to reports.

The original deal was worth $100m a year but the new agreement means the payments will double to £211m yearly, demonstrating the increased interest in the sport across the pond.

Paramount’s new agreement will take effect for the start of the 2024/25 season, which will coincide with the revamp of the Champions League. The group stage will be a single league table with each team playing eight games each in a round-robin format.

The increase in revenue will, of course, provide even more motivation for clubs like Celtic to qualify for Europe’s top competition. Russia’s ban, combined with the improvement in Scotland’s coefficient, means two Premiership clubs are eligible to play in the tournament for the first time in fifteen years.
