Boyata Speaks Out About His Future At Celtic Following Summer Controversy

Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata insists he is only focusing on his football with Celtic following questions over his future at the Scottish champions.

The Belgian international’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January. The centre-back was quoted as saying:

“Right now, I’m in a position where I’m not supposed to say anything about what happened in the past but I’m fully committed to the team.”

“I just want to give as much as I can whenever I’m on the pitch. I’m a Celtic player and I’m very happy to be a Celtic player.”

“Whatever happens next, happens next. I am looking forward to getting back to where we were in the last three seasons. We’re working hard and hopefully, we get back where we are supposed to.”

Boyata was the subject of a £9m bid from Fulham in the summer, but Celtic rejected the offer. The 27-year-old then claimed to be injured for a Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens with manager Brendan Rodgers questioning the player’s actions.

Since then, the defender has been reintegrated into the first-team, having started the last five Scottish Premiership games, including the 6-0 win over St Johnstone last time out

With Boyata’s contract running down, and the Belgian player seemingly giving nothing away about his future, it looks odds-on that he’ll be leaving Celtic come the end of the season.
