Celtic have announced that midfielder Callum McGregor has signed a new five-year contract with the club. The 26-year-old is a crucial first-team player and he has now committed himself to the club for his best years.
The Scottish international came through the academy, and barring one loan spell at English club Notts County, he has spent his entire career at Lennoxtown. Fans on Twitter are very happy about the new contract:

Callum is the kind of player who just gets on with his duties on the field and you rarely notice him, in a very good way. Great signing.

McGregor’s new deal should quash speculation about a potential move down South to the Premier League. Ex-Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the midfielder and his current side Leicester reportedly made a bid for the player back in August.
However, the offer was knocked back at the time, and with his new contract, it is highly unlikely that a move to England will now happen in the future. Supporters have been tipping McGregor to replace Scott Brown as captain when the skipper retires, and that looks closer to happening now.
