The Belgian international’s current deal at Parkhead expire at the end of June, and he will move to Germany on a free transfer.
Boyata has not played for Celtic since the 2-1 win in the Old Firm derby back in March due to a knee injury.
The 28-year-old will, therefore, not pull on the green and white hoops again before he makes his switch to the Bundesliga this summer.
During his time in Scotland, Boyata has made 135 appearances, scored 15 goals and made nine assists. His trophy cabinet includes four Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups.
His time at Celtic Park has somewhat ended under a cloud following the controversy last year when he reportedly refused to play in order to force through a move to Fulham. The transfer never materialised and he decided to run down his contract instead.
