Former Celtic player Simon Donnelly claims we have yet to see the best of Luis Palma in the green and white hoops.
The Honduran international was signed from Aris FC for £3.4m in the summer, and he has looked impressive in recent outings, but Donnelly says the winger needs to build on his performance against Hearts on Saturday, where he provided a great assist for Matt O’Riley’s opening goal:
“I like the guy Palma. I think there is a lot more in there with him. He is beginning to contribute; the pass at the weekend was fantastic.”
“Abada is out obviously. He has been brilliant for Celtic but he is out injured. This lad has come in; he has got a big reputation. He is different to what Celtic have in the wide areas. He looks to me as a footballer; he wants to come in and play rather than rely on pace on the outside.”
Palma is beginning to settle in Scotland
The 23-year-old has performed well over the last few games for the Scottish champions, with manager Brendan Rodgers handing the player more starts after using him from the bench initially.
Palma had scored against both Motherwell and Kilmarnock before his assist at the weekend, and there are signs that he possesses the ability to play in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic’s other winger recruits have not fared so well
The Hoops also brought in Marco Tilio and Yang Hyun-jun before the start of the season to reinforce the flanks, but neither has made much of an impression compared to Palma.
Tilio has struggled with injuries but Rodgers has since said that the Australian is back available, although he hasn’t chosen to select him yet. Yang, meanwhile, has been given more opportunities, but he has 0 goals and 1 assist from his 11 appearances so far.
