Celtic And Rangers Vying To Sign Liverpool Playmaker Who Has Just A Year Left On His Contract

Celtic and Glasgow rivals Rangers are both interested in snapping up Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson, according to reports in the English media.

The 21-year-old has had an impressive loan spell at Aberdeen this season, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances.

Clarkson is said to be keen on returning to his parent club and becoming part of the first-team setup. However, he will have just one year remaining on his contract at the end of the season and the Reds will likely be open to offloading the player.

You do wonder, though, whether Celtic would have room for him in their squad. Manager Ange Postecoglou signed Tomoki Iwata during the January transfer window to add to a sizeable group of midfielders that include captain Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull.

James McCarthy’s likely departure would free up some room but Clarkson would still have a job on his hands getting starts for the Scottish champions.
