Ex-Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter won’t be interested in replacing Ange Postecoglou at Celtic, according to Stan Collymore.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker claims that Potter will be looking to stay in England, with Crystal Palace a more likely destination:

“Potter? No chance [he will go to Celtic]. He’ll either go to a settled Prem club with plenty to work with [such as Palace] or sit it out until sacking season starts and jump into a big, but underperforming top-half club.”

Potter’s name was thrown into the ring by former Hoops player Kris Commons earlier this week, and not many have made him a favourite to succeed Postecoglou.

Who are the top contenders at the bookies?

The bookmakers have former manager Brendan Rodgers as the leading candidate at the moment, with Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca in second.

Mumbai City head coach Des Buckingham has moved up the list of contenders, mainly due to the fact that he was pictured in Glasgow over the past few days, although it will be a surprise if he is seriously considered for the role.

Nobody expected Postecoglou’s departure up until last week and, even then, the Hoops tried to offer the Australian a long-term contract to stop him from leaving for Spurs.

It means it is very unlikely that the board have a list of potential replacements prepared. A recruitment process is now underway and it may be some time before we know the actual candidates.

People might have forgotten that Eddie Howe was the number one choice to be appointed as permanent manager after Neil Lennon but Celtic eventually hired Postecoglou instead.

Another unknown quantity, such as Andoni Iraola, may come under consideration and there are likely to be plenty of other names that will emerge in the coming days.
