Celtic Could Receive £5.5M Financial Windfall As United Hold “Positive” Transfer Talks

Celtic could receive £5.5m if Bayer Leverkusen sell Jeremie Frimpong to Manchester United this summer, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The Dutchman was sold by the Hoops for £11.5m in January 2021 but they included a sell-on clause that would entitle them to 30% of the profit on any future transfer.

With Frimpong now reportedly valued at around £30m, Celtic may be set for a substantial windfall. Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that United have held initial talks about buying the defender, with “positive” progress being made.

It is believed that Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the fullback, who cost Celtic just £350,000 when he arrived from Manchester City’s academy in the summer of 2019.

Despite spending just eighteen months in Scotland, Frimpong could well earn his former team around £17m in total (if we also include the original transfer fee that Leverkusen paid.)
