Celtic Dealt Blow In Pursuit Of United Midfield Talent

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that midfielder Scott McTominay is unlikely to be loaned out this month.

Reports in the English media had suggested that Celtic were in contact with the Red Devils over a loan move for the Scottish international.

However, Solskjaer says McTominay may well be needed for the first team:

“Scott is working hard – he’s a young boy I believe in. We’re working on his contract. With injuries and the squad we have, I’m not so sure we’re going to see any movement at all.”

Midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been sidelined for a month with a calf injury and United are keen to keep hold of the 22-year-old so he can be utilised as cover.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers praised McTominay as a “talented young player” during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie, but declined to comment further on the club’s interest in the midfielder.

McTominay has made eight appearances for United this season and returned from injury to play the full 90 minutes in the FA Cup against Reading earlier this month.
