Celtic Dealt Injury Setback Ahead Of Champions League Qualifier

Celtic attacking midfielder Tom Rogic won’t be ready to face FK Sarajevo in the Champions League qualifier, according to manager Neil Lennon.

The Australian international struggled with knee problems at the back end of last season and also needed a month to recover from an ankle injury.

Lennon explained Rogic ‘s absence from pre-season following the Hoops’ 2-1 win over Austrian minnows Wiener SK yesterday:

“Tom picked up an ankle injury in the Scottish Cup final and we knew he would be three to four weeks anyway. He could do all his rehab work at home so he didn’t come to Austria.”

“We are hoping that by the time we get back this week Tom will be back on the training ground.”

The fact that he is still undergoing rehabilitation means it’s highly unlikely that he could make the first leg of the qualifier against FK Sarajevo.

The first game in Bosnia is just ten days away, while the return fixture will be held just eight days later at Celtic Park.

Celtic will next face FC St Gallen at the Kybunpark stadium in a friendly on Tuesday. The game against the Swiss Super League side will be the Bhoys’ last match before their first competitive fixture of the season.
