Celtic Dealt Major Setback In Attempt To Recruit 8 Cap International Defender

Outside of Celtic Park

Celtic’s chances of signing Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers have taken a significant blow after the defender had to be taken off injured when playing for his club on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old picked up a bad ankle injury in Spurs’s 1-0 defeat to Pacos de Ferreira in a Europa Conference League qualifier and he could be out for a number of weeks.

Carter-Vickers, who has 8 caps for the USA, was linked with the Hoops in the American media last month, and has also been tracked by the likes of Fulham, Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is keen on bringing in reinforcements before the transfer deadline, and a new centre-back is likely to be high up on his list of priorities.

With Christopher Jullien still sidelined, Stephen Welsh, Nir Bitton and Carl Starfelt are the Scottish club’s only real options in the middle of defence, so it wasn’t surprising that they were keeping tabs on Carter-Vickers. Whether another target will be looked at prior to the window closing, we shall have to wait and see.
