PSV Eindhoven are now firm favourites for the signature of Celtic target Vinicius Souza, according to reports in the Scottish media.

It is believed that the Lommel midfielder has made it known that he wants to join the Dutch club, leaving the Hoops with little chance of securing the Brazilian’s services.

Lommel’s connections to the City Group had given Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou some hope that he could lure Souza to Parkhead but the player has been given the final say on his future.

PSV still have to negotiate terms for the 23-year-old, though. A straight loan deal is thought to be likelier than a sale, with Lommel demanding around €8m (£6.8m) to sell the midfielder outright.

It isn’t known who the Hoops will target as an alternative if they do miss out on Souza. Two Metz players, Amadou Mbengue and Kevin N’Doram, have been mentioned as potential options in recent weeks so attention may switch back towards them if they fail to land their top target.
