Celtic Eye Serbian Colossus As Lennon Admits To Scouting Trip

Celtic are pursuing Partizan Belgrade centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic, according to multiple reports in the UK.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon was in the stands to see the 6ft 4in defender in action as Partizan won 1-0 against Connah’s Quay in a Europa League qualifier on Thursday.

Speaking about his presence in Wales for the match, the Celtic manager confirmed his attendance, and although he didn’t say who he was watching, it is pretty clear that Pavlovic was the man being eyed:

“I ended up in with the Partizan fans. That was an eye-opener as well. There was an Irishman in the middle of it. He must have got lost!”

“We were looking at a player. I’m just doing my job. I’m not going to divulge who it was obviously. A lot would fall into place if we do qualify but I’m uneasy talking about qualification as we are still so far off it.”

From Lennon’s words, it appears Pavlovic will only be a target if the Scottish champions make it into the group stages of the Champions League.

Considering Jack Hendry could be off to Hull City on loan, it seems surprising that Celtic wouldn’t consider Pavlovic an immediate priority.

The club would have just three recognised centre backs in the squad if Hendry departs, with Christopher Jullien, Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer Lennon’s present options.
