Celtic are weighing up a move for Brentford midfielder Romain Sawyers, according to reports in the Scottish media.
The 27-year-old is now in the final twelve months of his contract at Griffin Park and could be available for only £2.5m.
Stoke City are, though, likely to battle the Hoops for Sawyers, but there won’t be competition from another potential suitor after Aston Villa decided against making a move for the player.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon is keen to recruit another midfielder following the collapse of David Turnbull’s switch to Parkhead.
Sawyers did not score a goal for Brentford last campaign but did make seven assists in 42 league appearances.
He is capable of playing in a number of positions, having played in central midfield, as a number 10, on the wing as well as up front during his career.
Sawyers is, though, most comfortable in central midfield and would also be a useful replacement for Olivier Ntcham who has stated that he wants to leave Celtic Park this summer.
