Celtic fans tipped to win FIFA fan award

Celtic legend Jim Craig says his former side’s fans deserve to win the FIFA Fan Award after their fantastic display honouring the Lisbon Lions 50th anniversary last season.

Celtic fans are nominated alongside Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen this year, with the Hoops faithful rightfully being recognised for their brilliant support.

Jim Craig, who made over 140 appearances for Celtic, believes the Scottish champions deserve the award and has thanked fans for their ‘special’ display which honoured Celtic’s 1967 European Cup triumph – an event that took place in May.

Craig was a member of that side, and was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame on Sunday. He has described the event as something he would love to keep in his mind, and wishes his late teammates could have shared the moment with him.

Describing the tribute for the Lisbon Lions, Craig told FIFA.com: “It was a special day.”

“In your life you live some moments that you would love to just keep in your mind, and that was one of them.”

“It also was one of those moments you wished the rest of the guys were there to see.”

“I know they would have loved it, because the stadium looked splendid. I really hope fans will win it.”

“I am very grateful to them, as I know that all the boys are, not only because of that display, but because of everything that has been done for the Lions this year.”

“Celtic fans are special people, and we are very fortunate that they have kept us so close to their hearts.”

Voting for the FIFA fan award competition closes on October 22nd.
