Celtic Handed Big Boost In Attempts To Re-Sign £13m Rated Defender

Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic is interested in returning to Celtic if a deal can be struck in the January transfer window, according to the Football Insider.

The website reports that Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is open to the Croatian international leaving on loan, after failing to make a single appearance for the English side so far this season.

Benkovic was signed by Leicester for £13m from Dinamo Zagreb in August 2018, but he played just one match before being loaned out to Celtic.

The 22-year-old impressed during his season-long loan at Parkhead, playing 27 games last campaign before heading back down south.

With Rodgers having signed the player for the Hoops, it was expected that Benkovic would have been given more game time on his return to the Foxes but he has been limited to playing Under 23s football.

The Croatian was not even in the squad for Leicester’s 3-1 win over Burton in the Carabao Cup last night, and it seems likely that he’ll leave the King Power in January.
