Celtic Handed Double Injury Boost Ahead Of League Cup Final Clash

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that both Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull will be fit for the League Cup final against Rangers this weekend.

Mooy was rested for the 4-0 win over Aberdeen after picking up a knock last week, while Turnbull was unavailable due to his own minor issue, but Postecoglou says he expects to have the two players back in training very soon:

“Az just pulled up a bit sore in training (on Friday). I thought, he has played a lot for us recently, and I was pretty keen to give (Tomoki) Iwata some game time as well. I just thought it was a good one for Az to sit out and, talking to the medical team, both him and Turnbull should be training Tuesday and Wednesday when we are in and should be right for the final.”

If Mooy and Turnbull are back in the fold ahead of the trip to Hampden Park, it leaves Postecoglou with a couple of selection headaches in the middle of the park.

Mooy, in particular, has been in outstanding form in recent weeks and there is a good case for him to be recalled to the starting lineup for the cup final.

However, Matt O’Riley did pretty well against the Dons, while Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate are also in excellent nick. It’s a good problem for Postecoglou to have but it won’t be an easy decision choosing his midfield three.
