Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that centre-back Carl Starfelt will be back in full training in the next “few days”.
Speaking ahead of the game against Shakhtar Donetsk, Postecoglou said that, while the Swedish international wouldn’t be ready for the Champions League group game, he should be available for selection again pretty soon:
“Carl’s back in training which is great but it’s too early tomorrow. The idea is to get him back in training in the next few days and see how it goes.”
Starfelt has been sidelined for almost two months with a knee problem. His last match was against Rangers in the 4-0 win over their Glasgow rivals back in early September.
The likes of Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh have filled in ably during the player’s absence from the first team, but having the 27-year-old back alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the centre of defence will be a big boost for the club’s title challenge.
Starfelt’s partnership with Carter-Vickers provided the backbone as Celtic went on to finish top of the table last season, with the Hoops only conceding 22 times in 38 matches.
