Celtic Handed Significant Blow In Attempts To Sign Dutch U19 International

Celtic have been dealt a setback in their attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain left-back Mitchel Bakker on loan. The Hoops are keen to add the Netherlands Under 19 international to their ranks before the transfer window closes but it is believed the player is not keen on leaving his current club on a temporary basis.

Dutch journalist Thierry Boon, who works for the TV network NOS, says the 20-year-old is fully committed to PSG:

“Celtic seems to want to rent Mitchel Bakker from PSG. The left-back rules out a (temporary) departure.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon wants the club to sign a new left-back in order to replace Boli Bolingoli, who has almost certainly played his last game for the club, following the controversy over his trip to Spain last month.

Bakker is not the only player being considered though. As we mentioned yesterday, the Scottish champions are also actively pursuing Charlton Athletic wingback Alfie Doughty but the Hoops have had their first bid knocked back for the player.
