Celtic Have Tabled Bid For 6.5M Rated Copa America Star As They Line Up Edouard Successor

Celtic have made an offer for Benevento striker Gianluca Lapadula, according to Libero. The Peruvian newspaper claims that the Hoops are in talks to snap up the player.

After Benevento’s relegation from the Italian top flight to Serie B, they are willing to let the forward leave for around $9m (£6.5m):

That is still a pretty sizeable fee considering Lapadula is 31 years of age and would not have any resale value, unlike most of Celtic’s biggest signings in the past.

A replacement for Odsonne Edouard is likely to be needed, though, with speculation growing that Brighton will make an offer for the Frenchman in the coming days and weeks.

Lapadula does have a decent goal record in his career overall, but he has been more prolific in Italy’s lower leagues than in Serie A, where he has bagged 34 goals in 128 appearances.

For Benevento last campaign, the Peruvian international scored eight times despite his team only winning seven matches all season before they were relegated. He also had an impressive Copa America, scoring four times in Peru’s run to the semi-finals.
