Celtic Join Rangers And French Clubs In Pursuit Of 3M Rated Wales International

Outside of Celtic Park

Celtic, Rangers and a number of French teams are targeting a move for Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo, according to reports in the German media.

The Wales international spent the season out on loan at Cercle Brugge. The Pro League side had an option to sign the player on a permanent basis for €3.5m (£3m) but they confirmed last week that they wouldn’t be triggering their purchase clause.

It means that Matondo will be available for transfer this summer. A number of other Belgian clubs were said to be interested in snapping up the 21-year-old but the player has his sights on a return to the UK.

Celtic will, therefore, be one of the favourites for the Welshman’s signature. Whether Schalke will still be holding out for a £3m fee, it seems unlikely, considering that Matondo only has a year remaining on his contract.

The winger had a good season for Brugge, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 27 appearances, so he could be worth taking a chance on.
