Celtic will have to battle Rangers and Leeds for the signature of Cardiff winger Japhet Matondo, according to Football Scotland.

The 16-year-old is out of contract next month and the two Glasgow teams will be able to secure the player’s services for a small compensation fee of around £130,000.

Matondo is the brother of Wales international Rabbi (who currently plays for Schalke), and he is a similar type of player, equally capable of playing off the left or right flank.

The teenager has not made his senior debut yet, having only featured for Cardiff’s Under 23s, but he has been capped at youth level by Wales. It is likely, therefore, that he would start out with the Hoops’ B team in the Lowland League next season if he were to move to Scotland.

Football.Scotland also reported a couple of days ago that a decision on Matondo’s future could be imminent so fans won’t have to wait long to find out who has won the race for the player.
