Celtic Keen On Move For £5m Rated Championship Playmaker

Celtic are interested in signing Wigan playmaker Nick Powell, according to reports in the English media.

The Hoops won’t be the only team in for the player, however, with Brighton also believed to be keen on recruiting the 24-year-old.

Powell’s current deal expires in the summer and Celtic are reportedly lining up a contract which would be well in excess of the £1m a year he is reportedly earning at the DW Stadium.

Brighton’s interest could complicate things though. The Seagulls may look to make a January bid of up to £5m for the midfielder, which could jeopardise Brendan Rodgers’ side attempts to sign him on a free transfer.

Celtic may be buoyed by the fact Powell did reject a move to the South Coast last year so he could turn down the overtures from the Premier League side to make a move North of the border instead.

The former Manchester United player has scored three goals and provided four assists in seven Championship games for the Latics so far this season.
