Celtic May Have The Edge Over Arsenal In Battle To Sign 29 Year Old Shot Stopper

Brighton goalkeeper Maty Ryan is keen to be a number one at his next club, according to reports in the English media.

There have been some claims today that Celtic are interested in the 29-year-old, following the appointment of fellow Australian Ange Postecoglou as manager at Parkhead.

However, there are teams in England, Spain and France who are all said to be interested in securing Ryan’s services, with Arsenal, in particular, believed to be looking to sign the shot-stopper on a permanent basis.

The Australian international spent the second half of last season on loan at the Emirates and is known to be a boyhood Gunners fan, but he is likely to be only a backup option if he moves to London.

With that being the case, Celtic could become a more attractive destination. Neither Vasilis Barkas nor Scott Bain have been deemed good enough by previous managers and Postecoglou may feel like signing Ryan is a good solution to the Scottish club’s goalkeeping problems.
