Celtic and Fenerbahce are the two “strongest candidates” in the battle to sign Lommel midfielder Vinicius Souza, according to Sporx.

The Turkish news outlet claim that the Hoops are expected to be the biggest challengers to Fenerbahce in trying to secure the Brazilian’s services this summer.

Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Bologna have also been credited with an interest in Souza, but another potential destination, Club Brugge, have been ruled out, as the player is keen on a new challenge away from Belgium.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has strong connections to the City Group who own Lommel, but the final decision will be down to the player himself.

The Hoops would likely prefer a loan move, as the midfielder’s asking price is said to be €8m (£6.9m), but they may not have much choice in the matter if Souza is keen on leaving Lommel on a permanent deal after playing for KV Mechelen last season.
