Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has emphasised Celtic’s superiority over Glasgow rivals Rangers in the buildup to tonight’s game against the Hoops.

With PSV Eindhoven having thrashed Michael Beale’s team in the playoff round of the Champions League, there has been talk that Feyenoord could hand out a similar punishment when they take on Celtic. However, in his press conference before the match, Slot was adamant that the Scottish champions are a class above:

“Celtic have become champions nine times in the last 10 years, and I know how difficult it is to become champion. Then you have to have absolute respect for those types of teams, even if it is a competition where only two teams are in charge. Celtic have only lost to [Rangers] once in the last six meetings. Celtic have simply been a much better club than Rangers in the last 10 years.”

It’s a massive compliment from Slot but fans should be wary of this Feyenoord team heading into this evening’s game at De Kuip.

The Eredivisie champions have scored 19 goals in just 5 league matches, with 11 of those coming in their last two fixtures versus FC Utrecht and Heerenveen.

Feyenoord will be without their two main forwards

Getting a result in the Netherlands has been made easier for Brendan Rodgers’ side following the news that Santiago Gimenez will be suspended for today’s match.

The Mexican international has scored 6 times in 5 Eredivisie appearances this season. His direct understudy, Ayase Ueda, is also sidelined with a foot injury.

Celtic have been handed a big boost ahead of the Feyenoord fixture

New signing Nat Phillips had an injury scare after he was taken off at half-time in the 3-0 win over Dundee at the weekend.

However, the Liverpool loanee has already returned to training and he will be available to face Feyenoord.
