Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has praised Kyogo Furuhashi after he scored the winner in last weekend’s derby against Rangers.
The Japanese international was signed for only £4m from Vissel Kobe in 2021 and Dalglish wrote in his column for the Sunday Post (via 67HailHail.com) that the forward has been one of the bargains of the 21st century.
“I need to commend the winning goal from Celtic’s Kyogo. It was an outstanding strike and just reaffirmed again what a wonderful talent he is. At a transfer fee of around £4m, he is one of the transfer bargains of the millennium.”
Kyogo has had an outstanding goal return since arriving in Scotland, having hit the back of the net 57 times in 88 appearances for the Hoops.
The 28-year-old has been especially prolific versus Glasgow rivals Rangers, having scored 6 times in 10 games. The only team he has a better record against is Hearts (7).
Kyogo has committed his long-term future to the club
Following Ange Postecoglou’s departure for Tottenham at the start of the summer, there was some concern that the forward would decide to leave Celtic Park with the Australian.
However, Kyogo decided to put pen to paper on a new four-year contract back in July ending any speculation about his future.
Celtic have been pretty good at finding hidden gems
The Scottish champions have been great at snapping up some bargains over the past couple of years. In addition to Kyogo, the likes of Matt O’Riley (£1.5m), Reo Hatate (£1.4m) and Alistair Johnston (£3.5m) have proven to be very shrewd additions without breaking the bank.
Whether some of this summer’s purchases (such as Yang Hyun-jun, Odion Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Luis Palma), will end up proving to be just as successful, we shall have to wait and see.
