Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley scored his 5th league goal in only 7 appearances as the Hoops sealed a dramatic last-gasp 2-1 win against Motherwell at the weekend.
The score was 0-0 after 87 minutes but a late flurry of goals resulted in a dramatic finish, with the Scottish champions ultimately securing the 3 points and maintaining their advantage at the top of the Premiership table.
Understandably, supporters on X have been full of praise for O’Riley, who has thrived following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers in the summer:
Knew this guy was going to flourish under Rodgers, could tell straight away.

O’Riley’s hot streak in front of goal
The Danish Under 21 international had only scored 6 times in the league for Celtic over the course of his first 18 months in Scotland.
However, O’Riley has nearly doubled that total in a matter of weeks, following the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Whether he can maintain this purple patch, we shall have to wait and see.
Celtic will be relieved to secure the 3 points at Fir Park
It looked for all the world that Luis Palma had sealed a late victory for the Hoops on Saturday, with the Honduran international getting his first goal for the club since his £3.5m from Aris Thessaloniki.
However, Motherwell equalised deep into added time after a strike from Blair Spittal and it seemed that the home side had salvaged a point. O’Riley’s late intervention, though, proved to be crucial.
