Journalist Claims EPL Boss Is Celtic’s “Priority” Target As They Line Up Postecoglou Replacement

Celtic have made West Ham manager David Moyes their “priority” to replace Ange Postecoglou, according to Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna.

The French journalist doesn’t have a strong track record when it comes to UK-based stories but he claims that the former Everton and Manchester United boss is top of the Hoops’ shortlist of managerial targets:

The early bookies’ favourite is believed to be former manager Brendan Rodgers but Aouna suggests the Irishman is being lined up to replace Moyes if he leaves the Hammers.

Moyes has already been asked about speculation linking him with Celtic

The 60-year-old played down rumours about the Celtic’s manager’s job in a press conference last week. He stated that he is happy at the London Stadium:

“I’ve never even considered it. I’m West Ham manager and I’m really enjoying my period here. I’m hopefully trying to continue growing a really good football club so I’ve not given it any consideration.”

“Through my years I’ve been linked with lots of jobs at different times but I have to say I’m really happy at the moment and I’m settled where I am. The club have been so good to me and we’re enjoying the journey we’re on.”

It has been rumoured that Moyes will be sacked if West Ham lose the Conference League final on Wednesday evening so there is a possibility that he will be looking for a new job later this week anyway.

Who are the other contenders to replace Postecoglou at Celtic?

As we’ve mentioned, Rodgers is currently the frontrunner but the likes of former Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, Manchester City assistant head coach Enzo Maresca and Scotland boss Steve Clarke are also in the frame.

Even former club captain Scott Brown, and ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter have been suggested as potential candidates.

As Postecoglou’s departure hasn’t been confirmed yet, though, fans may have to wait a while longer before it becomes known which names are genuinely in contention to succeed the Australian.
