Celtic On 3 Game Winless Streak – Time To Panic?

Celtic have got off to a reasonable start this season as they try to achieve the unprecedented feat of winning 10 Scottish Premier League titles in a row keeping Steven Gerrard’s seemingly improved side at bay for another year.

Sitting in 2nd position in the SPL on 26 points with a game in hand Celtic have now slipped 6 points behind Rangers after the eventful 3-3 draw away with Aberdeen while Rangers built on their 2-0 win over the Champions at Celtic Park with a tidy 2-0 win over Livingston.

Worryingly for Neil Lennon’s team after the home Old Firm loss they also lost to AC Milan last week in the Europa League by a 3-1 margin again at Celtic Park, meaning before you know it the team are spinning their wheels on a 3 game winless run.

Celtic face a tough trip to Lille in the Europa League on Thursday and they will need to get something from the game if they are to avoid being pointless after 2 games which would virtually end their European campaign given the quality of their rivals in the group as AC Milan showed Lennon’s team last week.

Celtic then face St Mirren in the SPL at home on Sunday while Rangers play Lech Poznań at home in the Europa League on Thursday before travelling to play Kilmarnock in the SPL on Sunday.

If Rangers win both their games this week and Celtic were to lose both of theirs it could prove pivotal to the SPL title race giving Rangers a 9 point lead. Of course if Celtic win both their games this week and Rangers lose both of theirs there would be a massive shift in momentum in favour of the Hoops and crucially they would only be 3 points behind Steven Gerrard’s team with a game in hand.

So this should prove a big week in the fortunes of the two great rivals – bring it on!
