Liverpool have put forward Taiwo Awoniyi up for sale, according to Goal. Celtic were linked with a move for the 23-year-old last month as a potential option to replace Odsonne Edouard if the Frenchman left Parkhead.

It was claimed that the Nigerian is valued at around £9m by the Reds, but with the Premier League champions looking to get the player off their books, he could be available for a lot less.

Awoniyi spent last season out on loan at Bundesliga side Mainz, where he scored just one goal in 12 appearances but, despite his less than impressive spell, he remains a target for the German club.

Stuttgart are also believed to be interested in the striker so the Hoops will have a fight on their hands if they do choose to enter the running for the player.

With Edouard edging closer to signing a new contract, though, it doesn’t seem likely that Celtic will make an attempt to snap up Awoniyi during the current transfer window.
