Celtic On Alert As Greek International Is Made Available For £6m

Celtic are keeping tabs on AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, according to Sportime.gr. The Greek website reports that the Hoops are among a number of teams who have been made aware of the Greek international’s availability.

The 25-year-old is AEK’s number one but the Greek Super League side are reportedly looking to sell up in order to raise funds for other transfers. They are believed to be willing to listen to offers for around €7m (£6m).

Barkas has ten caps for Greece, having become a regular at international level over the past 18 months, but he did sit out the last round of games against Italy and Bosnia.

Whether Celtic would be interested in signing another goalkeeper in January, it seems doubtful. Scott Bain has recently signed a contract extension while first-choice Fraser Forster is on loan until the summer.

The Scottish champions may perhaps revisit the situation at the end of the season if they cannot secure a permanent deal for Forster.
