Celtic Planning Moves For Two More January Signings

Celtic are considering bids for two more players, according to reports in the UK. Olympiakos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui and Everton’s James McCarthy are believed to be January targets for the Hoops.

Elabdellaoui could arrive on a permanent deal for £4m. The Norwegian international is a regular for his current club but manager Brendan Rodgers is likely looking for a replacement for Mikael Lustig who is out of contract in the summer.

McCarthy, meanwhile, would be a possible loan signing. The Irish international has been building up his fitness since returning to training following a year out with a double leg fracture.

Last week, Everton boss Marco Silva said he wasn’t considering letting the 28-year-old leave on loan this month:

“This moment is not something in my mind.”

However, West Ham, Fulham, West Brom, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are all said to be interested in recruiting McCarthy so even if he were to be let go by the Toffees, Celtic would have a battle on their hands to seal a deal for the midfielder.

The Scottish champions have already secured loan deals for Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke this month, while striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo has joined on a permanent deal from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda.
