Celtic have made an enquiry about Gremio midfielder Fernando Henrique, according to Globo.

The Brazilian has not featured for Gremio’s first team for the past two months with manager Vagner Mancini preferring other options.

Henrique’s lack of game time is expected to hasten his exit when the January transfer window opens. Due to differing schedules, it will be at the end of Brazil’s season so a departure is more likely to happen then than in the summer.

Gremio are reportedly asking for around $5m (£3.7m) for the 20-year-old, who usually plays as a holding midfield player.

Manager Ange Postecoglou could certainly do with an extra body in the middle of the park. James McCarthy has struggled with injury and fitness issues, while Ismaila Soro is seemingly out of favour.

Globo also mention that Celtic may face competition from other clubs, with Athletico Paranaense and Red Bull Bragantino having enquired about Henrique earlier in the year, so we shall see how things play out in January.
