Celtic are “pushing” to sign Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph, according to the Chronicle. The local newspaper reports that the Hoops could face stiff competition from Newcastle for the teenager’s signature, with the Magpies also seen as one of the “frontrunners.”

The Scotland Under 19 international came to prominence after making his first-team debut for the Latics back October. He scored a hat-trick against Burton Albion just before the New Year, having bagged five goals and one assist in 18 League One appearances this season.

Back in February, Rangers and Arsenal were also mentioned as potential contenders for Joseph, although the Gers have reportedly cooled their interest since then.

Whether Celtic will be able to beat their rivals to the 19-year-old’s signature, we shall have to wait and see. The Scottish club won’t have to pay a big fee for the youngster, with the player’s contract set to expire at the end of June.
