Celtic Star Provides An Update On His Contract Situation And Reveals Why He’s Desperate To Stay

Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton says he wants to stay beyond the end of his contract at the Scottish champions. The 27-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer but he has yet to agree to an extension.

The Hoops star is happy with life in Scotland and would prefer to remain at the club if a contract can be hashed out between the two parties:

“Every season is important for a football player but, for me, this season is important because I finish my contract at the end of it. I obviously want to stay at Celtic for as long as I can.”

“I see my kids speaking English, which makes me very happy, so it’s good for all of us, and as long as it continues I’ll be happy. But, of course, it’s football so you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow, so we’ll see.”

Manager Neil Lennon has stated in recent weeks that he is keen for the club to extend the Israeli international’s contract but from the looks of things, an agreement doesn’t appear to be imminent.

Bitton has recently returned from a hamstring injury that he picked up in the Old Firm derby in September. He has not started since coming back into the matchday squad against Cluj earlier this month, with his only game time coming as a substitute in the 6-0 win versus Ross County at the weekend.
