Celtic have tabled a contract offer to Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme, according to reports in the Italian media.
There were claims in Spain earlier this month that both the Hoops and Rangers had made enquiries about the 19-year-old but it appears that Neil Lennon’s side are one step ahead of their Old Firm rivals.
Riquelme will be available in the summer with his contract set to expire in June, and he is free to talk to other clubs.
The teenager is reportedly keen to leave Atletico as he has had very limited game time under manager Diego Simeone. He has spent the majority of the season with the club’s youth teams.
It is believed that Celtic’s proposal is a substantial one, and although you cannot rule out Riquelme signing a new deal to stay at the Wando Metropolitano, there is every possibility he will move on in the summer in order to get more first-team football.
