Celtic Target Ankersen As Lennon Seeks Three Or Four More Signings

Celtic are interested in signing FC Copenhagen right-back Peter Ankersen, according to reports in Scotland.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his contract at the Danish club and will be allowed to leave if a good enough bid is made this summer.

Celtic currently have very few players who can play on the right-hand side of defence after Mikael Lustig’s departure for Gent, and Jeremy Toljan’s return to Borussia Dortmund.

Ankersen has spent the last four years with Copenhagen after leaving Red Bull Salzburg, initially on loan, back in 2015. He made a permanent move back to Denmark in 2016.

The fullback has 25 caps at international level, with his last coming in the 5-1 win against Georgia in a Euro 2020 qualifier earlier this month.

Celtic are very close to signing David Turnbull after the Motherwell player made a U-turn on his decision to join Norwich. Manager Neil Lennon expects a flurry of transfers following the midfielder’s £3m move.

The Hoops boss has targeted new signings in three or four positions and wants them in before the first team travel out to Austria later this month:

“We’re hoping to get a few more in, hopefully, to join us in the camp in Austria. We’re looking in three or four areas and we know the areas where we need to strengthen.”
