Celtic are interested in Fortuna Sittard attacking midfielder Mark Diemers, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The Hoops will face competition to land the 25-year-old, though, with German clubs Freiburg, Hamburg, Mainz and Belgian outfit Gent all targeting the Dutchman.

Diemers generally plays as a central playmaker, having scored eight goals and provided eight assists for Fortuna Sittard in all competitions this season.

The midfielder can also play out wide, having been used on the left-hand side of a front three on occasion this campaign, but he is most comfortable in the number 10 role.

Diemers has stated that he is keen to make a step up in his career following a successful year at Fortuna Sittard. He only joined the Eredivisie outfit on a free transfer last summer from De Graafschap.

He has also previously had spells at Utrecht and Groningen, but he has only really come into his own as a player this season.
