Celtic Tie Down Midfield Lynchpin To New Four And Half Year Contract

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has signed a new deal with the reigning SPFL champions, keeping him at the club until 2023.

The Scottish international has ended speculation about a move away from Parkhead by signing the contract extension. He has become an integral member of Brendan Rodgers’ first team over the past few seasons, helping the Hoops to a historic double treble.

McGregor has been at the club since the age of 8, making his way through the youth system. The midfielder was loaned out to English League One side Notts County before making his debut for Celtic against KR Reykjavik in a Champions League qualifier in July 2014.

It was only after Rodgers’ arrival as manager in 2016, however, that the 25-year-old began to develop into a regular first-team player. His development over the past few seasons has been remarkable, and he has now reached an important appearance milestone when he played his 200th game for the club against Hibernian last weekend.

McGregor has so far won four league titles at Celtic as well as five domestic cups. He will be hoping to add more trophies to his budding collection at the end of this campaign.
