Celtic Told French Ace Was ‘Worth At Least Double’ What He Was Sold For

Moussa Dembele was worth double what Celtic eventually sold the striker for, according to his ex-Fulham teammate Seko Fofana.

The Frenchman moved to Lyon for £19.7m on deadline day at the end of August, following the striker’s attempts to force through a transfer.

Talking to the French media, Fofana said he was surprised that Dembele didn’t get sold for a greater amount as he has all the talent to be a top player:

“I am surprised that clubs didn’t come in to take him earlier. I was told it was €20m from Lyon, but Moussa is worth at least double that figure.”

“He’s a complete striker – he can score with his head, left foot, right foot and defend.”

The 22-year-old moved to Scotland for just £500,000 in July 2016 after his contract expired at Fulham so the Hoops have made a significant profit on the player.

However, the Scottish club’s manager Brendan Rodgers said he didn’t want to sell Dembele, but once it became known that the forward wanted a move, a decision was made to let him go in the best interests of the squad and to maintain a positive atmosphere at the club.

During his time with Celtic, the France Under 21 international scored 51 goals in 94 appearances in all competitions.
