Celtic Told They Would Be Taking A “Gamble” If They Do Make Move For 96K A Week Chelsea Misfit

Celtic would be taking a “gamble” if they do decide to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

A number of sources south of the border have suggested that the Hoops are keen on snapping up the 28-year-old and, while O’Rourke feels it could be a risk, the England international may turn out to be a worthwhile addition to the squad:

“It would be an exciting signing, just because of who he is. He’s a top player, he’s played in the Premier League for Everton and Chelsea, although his career has stalled in the last few years, so it would be a gamble in some respects if Celtic were to sign him.”

There have been some comparisons made between Barkley and Joe Hart. The latter’s career had also stalled in England, to the extent where the 75 cap keeper had ended up as understudy at Spurs.

However, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou was right to take a chance on the 35-year-old who has since flourished since making the switch north of the border. Whether he is attempting a similar trick with Barkley, it remains to be seen.

The playmaker is said to be earning £5m a year (£96,000 a week) and he would have to reduce his salary significantly to join the Scottish champions.
