REPORT: 5 Celtic Players Could Leave Next Month As Rodgers Oversees Major Squad Overhaul

Celtic are set to allow five first-team players to leave Parkhead during the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It is believed that the Hoops will listen to offers for Alexandro Bernabei, Yuki Kobayashi, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Yosuke Ideguchi, while Nat Phillips will return to his parent club Liverpool.

All 5 have struggled to establish themselves at the Scottish champions for one reason or another, with manager Brendan Rodgers likely needing to free up space in his squad for new arrivals.

Bernabei has not managed to dislodge Greg Taylor since moving from Lanus for £3.75m last year. A return to Argentina could potentially be on the cards, but The Sun claim that the left-back could be tempted by a move to Italy.

Two Celtic players will go back to Japan

In terms of the futures of Kobayashi and Ideguchi, J League clubs are expected to snap up the pair next month. Despite only joining from Vissel Kobe last January, Kobayashi could be sent packing barely a year after arriving in Scotland.

The 23-year-old failed to impress in the second half of last season when given opportunities by Ange Postecoglou, and he has not even made an appearance under Rodgers this campaign.

Ideguchi, meanwhile, has been out on loan at Avispa Fukuoka where has earned rave reviews for his performances. It means he won’t be short of suitors.

Lagerbielke could be sold or loaned out

Even though the Hoops spent £3m to sign Lagerbielke from Elfsborg back in August, it appears that Rodgers doesn’t rate the defender. After scoring the winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League last week, he was subsequently dropped from the squad for the 2-0 home defeat to Hearts.

Many fans were hoping that the Swedish international would be given another chance but it is now expected that he will leave Celtic either on a temporary or permanent basis.
